XWiki Labs

Keen on staying at the edge of innovation, XWiki team is involved in research projects both at the national and at the European level.

XWiki Concerto

XWiki Concerto is a research project bringing together XPertNet, INRIA, ENST, Mandriva and EISTI. XWiki Concerto is sponsored by the French National Research Agency (ANR) in the frame of the Software Technologies National Network (RNTL). The project started in January 2007 and runs until December 2008. XWiki Concerto aims at evolving the XWiki engine toward a P2P architecture supporting mobility, offline work and replication of content across a large number of peers. This research work will allow XWiki to run on a fault tolerant P2P architecture allowing to scale to millions of users, and to support mobile workers in their daily collaborative activities, using an efficient and secure solution supporting replication and synchronization of the content. With the ever faster development of telecommunications infrastructure and with the advent of the web2.0, the ubiquitous and mobile web still needs innovative solutions to become real. XWiki Concerto will gears toward this mutation of an ubiquitous collaborative web, both on the technological side in providing innovative solutions for data replication, mobile secure work, and on the usage side in involving 3 target communities into the use of the solution: the technonoly will be experimented indeed by the following communities during the project: OW2 collaborators, Mandriva Club members, and XWiki.com farm users.

Nepomuk

Nepomuk: http://nepomuk.semanticdesktop.org

XWiki team is taking part in the Nepomuk project as a subcontractor of Edge-IT/Mandriva. NEPOMUK intends to realize and deploy a comprehensive solution – methods, data structures, and a set of tools – for extending the personal computer into a collaborative environment, which improves the state of art in online collaboration and personal data management and augments the intellect of people by providing and organizing information created by single or group efforts. This solution is called a Social Semantic Desktop. This enhanced personal workspace will be Semantic since it will give information a well defined meaning, making it processable by the computer. It will be Social since it will support the interconnection and exchange with other desktops and their users.

The project started on January 1, 2006. NEPOMUK is funded by the European Commission as an Integrated Project in unit INFSO.E2 under the IST activities of the 6th Framework Program.

XWiki is developing a Social Semantic Help desk in collaboration with Mandriva and with the whole Nepomuk Consortium. This help desk of a new generation will be used within the community of Mandriva Linux users.
