Why Open Source ?

XWiki is an open source project. We strongly believe that Open Source is the best way to develop a software business today. We believe in the partnership we are creating between our community members, our customers and partners and our company.

• Our community members get the benefit of the enhancements financed by our customers in exchange for their participation to the improvement of XWiki and to help us make XWiki known worldwide. Our software can be used freely for research projects, education and still allow researchers full freedom to publicize their research. Our software can be used freely by technology savy companies that don't require our support. We benefit from the use of XWiki by these research projects and technology savy companies, because they help us make XWiki known and they very often contribute comments, documentation and code to the project.
• Our customers and partners get the benefit of a better quality/price ratio thanks to the sum of improvements implemented by the community. Our customers also get the benefit of much greater freedom which allows them to choosse not to work with us if we don't meet the level of service and support they require. They have the right to get back in control of their projects at any time because our platform is Open Source. However, our customers don't have to give up the accountability and commitment that a professional service provider can give them. As a professional service provider, we can provide our customers with ready to go solutions allowing them to drive their projects to success.
